THE COMMITTEE OF 300

It is doubtful that there is another civic-minded organization like it in the whole world. It is the only known organization where anyone can join (social or political pull doesn't count). Only three things are required for membership:

  1. Payment of yearly dues.
  2. Active participation on race weekend.
  3. Exhibiting a desire to become part of a civic-oriented effort to assure the successful growth of the City of Long Beach and its community.

WHO....

The Committee of 300 is a nonprofit community service organization dedicated to promoting the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and the City of Long Beach. The Committee of 300 became known as "The Redcoats" because of the distinctive red jackets worn by its members. Created in 1975 to assist the inaugural race, the Committee of 300 is always visible during the race weekend, when members serve as grandstand ambassadors, assist in the press facility and manage the Paddock Club.

WHAT....

Membership in the Committee is limited to 300 people. The membership roster lists people from all walks of life, all brought together by one common drive - to put the very best of Long Beach on display to the rest of the world. Each member is called a "Governor". The Governors elect a Board of Directors from among their own ranks each year. The Directors provide the plans for, and supervision of the various activities that the Committee is designated to perform. Each director is responsible for a different, specific function. They include: Paddock Club, Race Day Coordination, Press Operations, Promotions and Membership.

WHERE...

The Committee of 300 is located at 3000 Pacific Avenue, Long Beach, California 90806. We can be reached at (562) 981-9200.

WHEN...

In addition to our commitment of working race weekend, the Committee of 300 is active 365 days a year. There are monthly Board of Governors meetings, Activities, and Social Functions. In addition to the Board of Governors meetings, each subcommittee has meetings that are determined by the specific duties that they perform.

WHY....

The Committee members have a positive attitude and enthusiasm about themselves and the City of Long Beach. They have a desire to see that the city succeeds in reaching its growth potential. They recognize that the Grand Prix event is highly visible to the community and to the world... and that Long Beach is fortunate to have such an event. You don't have to be a race addict in order to enjoy the Grand Prix, or as a prerequisite for membership. It's a bonus if you are, but you will find most members are more interested in seeing that the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is produced in a successful, quality manner. The members are success oriented. Their dedication has earned the Committee recognition as the best-run, hardest-working volunteer organization in all of the Grand Prix circuits throughout the world. It's their team effort that gives the Committee the checkered flag of success. If you are interested in more information, or applying for membership in the Committee of 300, please contact our office. They will put you in touch with someone from our Membership Development Team.
